You can make more profit in your physical products if you can get a customer to buy from you
repeatedly, but if you are having trouble getting them to come back and turn into repeat
customers, you might want to read until the end.
There is a cost to make a sale in your store
Repeat buyers should be on the average percentage of your store revenue. You must
understand that it might cost you time or money that you spent to get in front of your customer.
Let’s say it costs 7 dollars on average to get someone to buy from you and then they place a 20
dollar order in your store, that 13 dollars could be your ad spend for paid ads or it could be the
worth of your time posting on social media or doing SEO, whatever it is, it’s effort and time you
exert that cost money.
Here are the 5 best ways to make more sales and make more money without being a lot of
extra work for you.
Subscription
If you don’t have a subscription product you are missing a lot of sales in the table or if you don’t
have one, maybe this is the time to create one.
Subscription products are popular these days, you might have heard of ‘BarkBox’ that you’ll get
a box every month of a few different things for a monthly fee. It’s just an automatic payment like
subscribing to Hulu.
The nature of subscription is it’s usually a surprise for the customer. They don’t know what
they’re getting and just keep in mind that you don’t have to freak out to include various of your
own products to each box to each customer, you can just keep things simple.
Start Email Marketing
If you have an email list for your business, find out how to segment your email list so that you
can send email depending on your customers buying journey. If they already buy from you then
you need to create a segment for this email list and send them an email series to make them
buy again from you.
To take this one step forward, you should use autoresponders or email automations. Those are
automated emails that get sent to people who’ve purchased from you before.
For example, one month after someone buys from your store for the first time you can send
them an automated email where you’re talking about a related product from what they
purchased before that is available in your store.
Loyalty Program
Implementing loyalty programs or points programs will make your customers feel they are
incentivized, and it will make them buy again.
I’m sure you might have at least one or two loyalty programs that you use, may it be from a
grocery store near your area that will give you points depending on your spent amount and can
be convertible to a discount, or from your favorite coffee shop that will give you a loyalty card
that they will stamp every time you buy their products and getting free coffee once you reach a
certain number of purchases.
If you decide to put some sort of program similar to this in your store this is a bonus tip for you
that you might want to try.
Make their first order appealing
A simple program like 5 dollars spent in your store is equal to 1 point, and then a reward like
when you get to 50 points, you’ll get a 5% discount.
So, for the first order if you make it so that your customers get an extra 20 points on top of their
order, they’re going to feel encouraged to spend more so they can get closer to that reward.
Now, while this is effective to other businesses, it’s not one size fits all. To make this effective
for your store, you need to have a product or reputation of product that your customers want to
collect. In short, you need a quality product.
Consumable Product
Your product may be consumable per se, like you might be already selling soap, food, dog
treats, planner and skincare products. Consumable products are something that gets used up
over time and when they run out or use it all up, they’re going to buy from you again.
What if your business doesn’t sell consumables? Then maybe you can start to create a
consumable product or if this doesn’t fit your business brand then this is not for you.
Give an Outstanding Customer Support
We are talking about like at a whole another level where you go above and beyond and give an
extra mile for your customer especially when something goes wrong with your customer’s order.
If you can turn an unhappy customer into a happy customer by giving really good customer
support, then there’s a higher chance that your customer will be much more loyal to you than a
customer who just has had a normal positive experience with your store.
Making an effort to right a wrong even if it costs you more money to fix the problem, that shows
your customer what kind of brand you are. That’s the kind of experience that your customers will
share with all of their friends about. They’re extra appreciative about being taken care of so well.
Bottom Line
With a lot of alternatives of products out there, with the technology that we have these days, it is
easier than ever to look for another option and move from one brand to another.
It doesn’t need to end up this way. Just be sure to give everything you can give as a business
owner to know your customers and give them an amazing customer experience. Remember “A
happy customer is a repeat buyer”.
